Azalea Purity cultivation thrives in partially shaded areas with well-drained, acidic soil that retains moisture, according to The Plant Store. It prefers a slightly acidic pH (around 6.0), which can be achieved by amending the soil with organic matter like compost or peat moss. Regular watering, especially when first planted, is crucial, followed by consistent moisture during the summer months.
Azaleas need a well-drained, acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. If your soil is alkaline, you can amend it by adding peat moss, milled cow manure, or using an acidifying fertilizer like Yates Soil Acidifer Liquid Sulfur.
Dig a hole twice the width and depth of the root ball, then backfill with amended soil. Water the plant thoroughly after planting.
Apply a layer of organic mulch (like shredded bark or pine needles) around the base of the plant to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
Regularly water newly planted azaleas until they are established. During the summer, ensure the soil stays consistently moist but not waterlogged.
