Zieria prostrata is a prostrate shrub, meaning it grows low to the ground, forming mats or mounds. It features small, glossy green leaves that are aromatic when crushed and pale pink buds that open into small, white, four-petaled flowers, typically in spring and summer. The flowers attract beneficial pollinators like bees. It’s a compact plant, rarely exceeding 15cm in height, but can spread up to 1 meter wide.

Payless Plants

Zieria prostrata is an excellent choice for groundcover, living mulch, and weed control in gardens, especially coastal gardens. It’s also suitable for rockeries, pots, and containers.

Cultivation Guide

Zieria prostrata is relatively easy to grow. It thrives in well-draining, sandy loam or sandy soils and prefers dappled shade or filtered sunlight, avoiding harsh afternoon sun. It’s drought-tolerant and frost-hardy once established and also tolerates coastal salt spray.

Regular watering is needed until the plant is established. Mulching is also recommended. Pruning can be done as needed, and fertilizing with a low phosphate native plant fertilizer is beneficial for plants in poor soil. It is very disease resistant.
