ACRS., 1981, Camellia News, No.79, p.28, Reg. No.262, colour photo, p.41. Originated by Edgar Sebire, Wandin North, Victoria, Australia. A chance seedling with C.rosiflora as the seed parent, that first bloomed 1978. Spreading, open growth. Flowering Mid-season. Semi-double, 6 cm, rose-pink flowers. It has mid-green, 8 cm x 3.5 cm, lanceolate, tapering apex leaves with shallow serrations.

‘Rosabelle’ is a stunning non-reticulata hybrid. It is highly valued as a landscape plant that produces abundant, dainty flowers from mid-autumn all the way into early winter. The shrub displays a lush, dense, and uniform growth habit. The small, rich green leaves stay attractive year-round, while the plant’s natural resistance to common diseases makes it exceptionally easy to manage. Rather than being a showy exhibition bloom, ‘Rosabelle’ is celebrated as an outstanding garden performer that “shows off” in the yard.

Cultivation Guide

Sunlight: Prefers partial shade (especially protection from harsh afternoon sun to prevent leaf burn), but it can tolerate full sun in cooler climates.

Soil: Thrives in rich, acidic (pH 5.0 – 6.5), and well-drained soil. Incorporate organic matter like compost or pine bark to boost acidity and moisture retention.

Watering: Requires regular watering during the first few years. While remarkably drought-tolerant once established, they perform best when kept consistently moist without waterlogging.

Fertilization: Apply a specific Yates Premium Potting Mix or slow-release Camellia/Rhododendron fertilizer in mid-spring after flowering has finished.

Pruning: Prune immediately after the blooming period ends to shape the bush and encourage denser branching.
