The Fantasia Nectarine (Prunus persica var. nucipersica) is a widely popular, self-fertile, freestone nectarine. It is famous for its large, bright-red fruit and highly aromatic, sweet-tangy golden flesh. This mid-to-late season producer is cherished for both fresh eating and preserving.
The Fantasia tree grows as a deciduous, medium-sized tree reaching roughly 4 to 5 meters (12 to 15 feet) in both height and spread, though it can be easily pruned to smaller dimensions for backyard convenience. In early spring, it produces attractive, five-petaled pink blossoms that add ornamental value to domestic gardens. The fruit matures mid-to-late season (typically February in New Zealand, or late July to August in the Northern Hemisphere). The nectarines are large, round-to-oblong, and have smooth, glossy skin. The flesh is firm, smooth-textured, and highly regarded for offering the ideal benchmark balance of sweetness and acidity.
