Pear Conference

$50.00

The Pear “Conference” is a European pear variety with long, green, russeted fruit, known for its sweet, juicy flesh and suitability for home gardens. It ripens in mid-autumn, has ornamental appeal with spring blossoms and autumn leaves, and is moderately vigorous, making it good for beginners. For best results, plant in a sunny, sheltered spot with moist, fertile, well-drained soil. While partially self-fertile, a compatible pollinator like ‘Packham’s Triumph’ or another variety is recommended for better yields.

Cultivation Guide

  • Pollination: It is partially self-fertile, meaning it can produce a crop alone, but a cross-pollinator (such as ‘Packham’s Triumph’) will significantly improve fruit yield.
  • Sunlight: Full sun is essential for the best fruit production.
  • Soil: Prefers fertile, moist, well-drained soil.
  • Climate: Tolerant of cool climates and fully hardy, making it suitable for many regions.
  • Planting: Plant in a sunny, sheltered location.
  • Watering: Water regularly during dry spells and when the fruit is developing to ensure good fruit quality.
  • Pruning: A winter prune to remove dead wood and thin the crown is important. A summer prune can also encourage fruit bud formation and better ripening.
  • Pests & Diseases: A preventative spray program, including winter oil and copper applications, may be necessary.
