Apple Red Delicious

$50.00

The Red Delicious is a classic American apple famous for its heart-shape, deep crimson skin, and mild, sweet flavor. Originally discovered as a chance seedling in Iowa in the 1800s, it has crisp ivory flesh that becomes softer with age. It is primarily eaten fresh rather than baked.

The Red Delicious apple (Malus domestica) is easily identified by its conical, heart shape, thick waxy skin, and five distinct bumps on the blossom end. The skin ranges from brilliant bright red to a deep, dark crimson. Inside, the flesh is ivory to pale yellow, juicy, and yields a mild, slightly melon-like sweetness. Historically the most produced apple in North America, its thick skin provides an exceptionally long storage life, though the flesh may become mealy if kept too long.

Cultivation Guide

Soil & Sun: Plant in slightly acidic ph5.5-7, moist, well-drained soil in a position of full sun. Air movement through the branches is vital for disease prevention.

Pollination: These apples are not self-fertile and require a second compatible apple variety to produce fruit. Good pollinators include Gala, Granny Smith, or Golden Delicious.
