Cultivation Guide

Lavender Blue Mountain, an English lavender variety, thrives in sunny, well-drained locations and prefers conditions mimicking its native Mediterranean habitatIt’s a compact, evergreen shrub with striking violet-blue flowers, highly fragrant, and attractive to bees. Optimal growth is achieved in free-draining soil, with minimal watering once established.

Cultivation Details:
  • Sunlight: Full sun is essential for healthy growth and abundant flowering.
  • Soil: Well-drained soil is crucial; lavender prefers sandy or loamy soil and can tolerate poorer soils as long as they drain well.
  • Watering: Minimal watering is needed once established, as it doesn’t tolerate waterlogged conditions.
  • Fertilizing: Avoid over-fertilizing as it prefers lean soil.
  • Planting: Plant in a sunny spot, digging a hole at least 50-75% deeper and wider than the root ball. Consider incorporating compost or sheep pellets to enrich the soil.
  • Pruning: Lightly trim after flowering to maintain shape. A third cut back in Autumn is also recommended for Lavender Blue Mountain White, according to 4Mooi.
  • Spacing: Space plants 12 to 18 inches apart.
  • Harvesting: Cut stems just above the first set of leaves, leaving some green growth on the plant.
